Desks are often complemented by hutches, which are cupboards that can be fixed on the wall where the desk is inclined. Hutches are mainly used for storage. Many desks themselves contain drawers and cabinets, which can be locked.

Wood is the most popular material for making desks. Wood blends beautifully in homes and complements both ancient and modern decor. Plastic and metal desks are also available, but they are not as good looking as wooden desks.
